Skagway Dog Musher Adventure Tour

Skagway Dog Musher Adventure Tour

Departing from Skagway's glacially carved coastline, you will ride over the coastal mountain range through the White Pass Summit Area known as the Tormented Valley. And here begins the adventure of a lifetime: the Yukon Dog Musher Adventure Tour. Making your way across the northwest corner of British Columbia and into the southwest corner of the Yukon, you will savor majestic mountain vistas, pristine lakes, and crisp, clean air. A photo stop will be made at Emerald Lake before traveling on to Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Museum. During this time, you can relax and enjoy a tasty Yukon-style lunch, visit one of the most spectacular wildlife museums in North America, and visit a dog musher's camp. The museum's exhibits range from Ice Age specimens to animals more recently introduced into the Yukon. Also included are exotic animals from both the arctic and sub-arctic regions of Alaska and the Yukon, as well as from around the world. The highlight of your day may be your visit to the mushing camp at Caribou Crossing, where mushers train their dogs for the world's toughest dogsled race, the "Yukon Quest." Your time in the camp includes a 20-minute presentation on the art of mushing, including how they train in the summer without snow, followed by a five to six-minute ride with an experienced dogsled musher over cut trails in a dog cart pulled by racing huskies. There will also be time to play with the puppies, so do not forget your camera. All too soon it is time to begin the approximate two-hour drive back to Skagway.

Wildlife Tour

Wildlife Tour

Setting out from your hotel in Anchorage, we will drive you south along the Turnagain Arm, looking to the left for possible sheep, mountain goats, or moose sightings, and to the right for beluga whales, eagles, salmon, and more. Upon reaching Girdwood, we will make a stop at the main attraction of this tour, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Alaska's wildlife through conservation, education and quality animal care. Most of the animals that have come to AWCC were either orphaned or injured. With consent from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, animals are taken in, treated and rehabilitated. Depending on their individual case and condition, they may be released back into the wild, transferred to another facility, or given a permanent home at the Center. Here you are guaranteed to see animals. The residents are constantly changing as new ones arrive and, hopefully, many are released back into nature. The possibilities of animals you may see are bears, moose, elk, caribou, and all kinds of other Alaskan wild animals including the Arctic Musk Ox. As you walk along from one open air compound to the next, you will have the possibility of seeing Alaska's animals in a natural setting
